Having caught an episode of the documentary ‘She-Wolves’ about female queens during the Middle Ages last year, I couldn’t resist borrowing the book (by Helen Castor) from the library the other day. I’m around four chapters in and it’s very interesting and well-written, though my progress has been limited by an irrepressible desire to make notes. It has also resulted in the setting aside of ‘Tudor Monastery Farm’ (by Peter Ginn and Ruth Goodman, based on their latest experimental archaeology series) which I have been reading since Christmas, which itself usurped another book (or three). Perhaps one day I’ll find the time to read them all!
